Phra Lab was founded in Bangkok in 2021 by a small group of practitioners who had spent years working at the intersection of software engineering and data systems. What those years made clear was that the AI development field was developing faster than the education around it — and that most learners were being asked to piece together their understanding from sources that had not been designed with coherence in mind.
The name comes from the school's location in Watthana and a deliberate nod to the idea of a laboratory — a place where things are worked through carefully rather than hurried. The founding team had each, at different points, wished for the kind of structured, applied programme that Phra Lab now offers.
From 2021 to 2023, the school ran a single cohort-based programme. Since 2023, the curriculum has expanded to three focused tracks that address the upstream, evaluation, and operational dimensions of AI work — layers that practitioners tend to encounter in sequence as their responsibilities deepen.

People Behind the Programmes
Warut Thanakit
Lead Instructor — Data Engineering
Warut worked for eight years as a data engineer at technology firms in Bangkok and Singapore before joining Phra Lab as a founding instructor. He leads the Data Engineering for AI programme.
Nattacha Charoenwong
Lead Instructor — Model Evaluation
Nattacha has a background in applied machine learning research and spent four years working on evaluation methodology at a Bangkok-based AI consultancy. She designed the Evaluation and Testing programme.
Prawit Lertprasert
Lead Instructor — MLOps & Infrastructure
Prawit brings ten years of infrastructure and DevOps experience, with the last four focused specifically on ML systems in production. He leads the Infrastructure and MLOps track.
How We Maintain Programme Quality
Curriculum Review Cycle
Programme content is reviewed and updated at least once per year by the lead instructor for each track, with ad hoc updates when tools or practices in the field shift significantly.
Instructor Practitioner Status
All Phra Lab instructors maintain active engagement with the technical work they teach. This keeps teaching grounded in current practice rather than historical understanding.
Exercise Validation
All practical exercises are tested against current versions of the frameworks and tools used before each cohort begins. Broken exercises are corrected before learners encounter them.
Learner Data Protection
Learner records are stored securely and are not shared with third parties for commercial purposes. Details are set out in our Privacy Policy.
Cohort Feedback Process
Learners provide written feedback at the midpoint and close of each programme. This feedback informs the following cohort's delivery and is reviewed by the instructor and school director.
Cohort Size Limits
Cohort sizes are kept small enough that instructors can engage meaningfully with each learner's progress. When demand exceeds capacity, we open additional cohorts rather than increasing group size.
AI Development Education in Bangkok
Bangkok's technology sector has grown considerably over the past decade, and with it the demand for practitioners who understand AI systems at more than a surface level. Phra Lab's three programmes address the parts of AI work that often receive the least formal attention: the data engineering layer that sits upstream of model development, the evaluation practices that determine whether a model is fit for deployment, and the operational infrastructure that keeps AI systems running in production.
The school draws learners from across the Bangkok technology sector — software engineers, data analysts, and infrastructure specialists who have encountered AI work in their roles and want to develop a more thorough understanding of the practices involved. The programmes are also open to learners elsewhere in Thailand who prefer online delivery.
Phra Lab's approach is shaped by the view that AI development is an engineering discipline with its own set of practices, and that those practices reward careful study. The programmes are not designed as introductions to the AI field in general; they are focused on specific layers of the work, designed for learners who already have a technical background and are ready to develop it in a particular direction.
